Victor Wembanyama posting insane stat lines despite Spurs losing streak

SAN ANTONIO – Two things are happening at once with these young Spurs, the losing streak is at 12 straight games and Victor Wembanyama continues to dazzle at a historic pace for a rookie.

Wembanyama showed out again Sunday night against Denver, putting up 22 points, 11 rebounds, six steals, and four blocks. The first stat line like that in Spurs history.

In fact, since the NBA merger nearly 50 years ago, stats like this have only been put up 11 other times. Add the fact that Wembanyama is only 19-years-old, his teammates say they’ve been pushing him to be more aggressive.

“I been telling him, be more assertive, you know. Especially when you get into the paint. You know, just assert yourself more. Like when he tried to dunk on him, stuff like that. Him being more aggressive, more assertive, you know that’s what we want, so you know I be in his ear and the coaches and teammates be in his ear too,” said Spurs guard Malaki Branham.

Spurs don’t get back to action until Thursday night back at the Frost Bank Center where they will host the Atlanta Hawks. That’s the first leg of a back-to-back because they immediately go out on the road to face the Pelicans on Friday night.
