The Vanderbilt Commodores secured their first-ever win over a No. 1 opponent after upsetting the Alabama Crimson Tide 40-35 in Week 6 of the 2024 college football season.

Quarterback Diego Pavia stole the show with his performance down the stretch. The 6-foot senior led the Commodores to two huge touchdown drives in the second half and secured the game with a few clutch first downs in the final minutes.

Pavia played the previous two seasons with the New Mexico State Aggies. In 2023, he led the Aggies to a 31-10 upset over Alabama's rival, the Auburn Tigers.

During the game against the Crimson Tide, as Pavia was playing out of his mind, a video reemerged on social media of a moment in last season's game where Pavia caused a fight after body-slamming an Auburn defender in the first quarter.

The fan who posted it summed up Pavia perfectly.

"If there's one QB that isn't scared of the #1 team in the country, it's Diego Pavia," the fan wrote on X. "This man went into Auburn and started suplex slamming people for fun last year."

Multiple flags were thrown, but the only penalty that was accessed was an unnecessary roughness call on Pavia.

Pavia finished the Alabama game completing 16-of-20 passes for 252 yards and two touchdowns. He added 56 yards on the ground. For the season, the former two-star recruit has 973 passing yards, eight passing touchdowns, two rushing touchdowns and no interceptions.

In Week 4, the Commodores gave another top-10 team a scare in the No. 7 Missouri Tigers, forcing double overtime before Missouri secured a three-point win. They will get another SEC test next week as they head to Lexington to square off against the Kentucky Wildcats.
