Viktor Gyokeres has remained coy over speculation that he could be set to join his former manager, Ruben Amorim , at Manchester United .

Amorim spent four years at Sporting Lisbon in Portugal and helped develop Gyokeres into one of the best strikers in the world during that time, though he has now departed for United.

The Portuguese is getting ready for his first game in charge of the club having flown to Manchester nearly a week ago, with the international break coming to and end.

His first game in charge will be away to Ipswich on Sunday, and one of the challenges he is facing is improving the club's goal scoring output, with United currently 16th when it comes to goals scored in the Premier League .

The 39-year-old has a number of options at his disposal to help that happen, though there have been suggestions that United could move to help Gyokeres, who has scored 23 goals in 18 games for Sporting this season, link back up with his former boss.

The player himself, however, has halted speculation, insisting there have not yet been any talks to get a deal done.

'He probably has some strikers there already, so we'll see,' the forward told Fotboll Skanalen. 'No, he hasn't [asked me to join him].

'It's fun but nothing I attach any importance to because it's talk and nothing concrete.'

Via Fabrizio Romano , he added: 'I want to finish this season at Sporting. I love it here

'We will see [about a new club] when the time comes. I want to play, that's crucial, and there will be also other factors.'

Speaking on Amorim's Sporting exit in general, he added: 'It's very sad that he's leaving, but of course we understand his decision.

'He has of course meant a lot [to me] considering that he gave me that chance and that he made me develop so much. Now we look forward to working with the new coach.'
