An investigation is underway after a 77-year-old man was killed in a violent crash in the Boyle Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles that also left two teens in the hospital Thursday night.

The crash occurred shortly after 9 p.m. in the 3000 block of East 4th Street as a Honda was traveling westbound and attempted to make a left turn.

Two teens, 17 and 18, headed eastbound are seen on surveillance video running into the side of the Honda, which spins out and comes to a stop in the middle of the intersection.

The Mercedes veered off the street and crashed into a pole. Both teens were taken to a local hospital in serious condition, the Los Angeles Fire Department stated in a news alert.

The man in the Honda was pronounced dead at the scene, the Fire department said.

A witness said she believed the Mercedes was speeding at the time of the crash. "I want to say they were probably going like 85, 90. They were going pretty fast," Connie Lomeli said.

Lomeli said the teens "didn't look like they were under the influence or anything."

Police have not determined whether speed or alcohol were factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.
