Virginia R. "Ginny" Kotschwar

Virginia R. "Ginny" Kotschwar, 87, of Kearney, died October 2, 2024 at C.H.I. Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. Funeral services will be 10:30 am, October 7, 2024 at the First United Methodist Church in Kearney with Pastor Matt Fowler officiating. Burial will follow at Kearney Cemetery. Visitation will be 2:00 to 4:00 pm, October 6, 2024 at Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services. Ginny was born September 14, 1937 to Herman and Martha (Stewart) Berns. She attended school in Culbertson, NE. Ginny married Harold Kotschwar July 26, 1960 in McCook, Nebraska. Ginny worked at Regency of Kearney and co-owned and operated D & D Lawn Care in Kearney.

Ginny will be remembered for her love of God and family as well as her strong work-ethic. She loved to mow and do things for others. In her free time, she loved listening to music and spending time with her friends attending Kearney Live Music events. In her younger years, she played softball and was proud to help raise many children at her in-home daycare. She had fun dressing in costumes and doing skits. Ginny always made people laugh and smile. She would often say, "Do what you love and love what you do!" Ginny lived life to the fullest with her life's motto, "I'd rather wear out than rust out!"

Ginny was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Law Enforcement Spouse's Association, and Kearney Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary.

Ginny is survived by her sons, Tim and Andrea Kotschwar of Kearney, Keith and Sarah Kotschwar of Lantana, TX; daughter, Rhonda and Woody Nelson of Bennington, NE; grandchildren, Jeff and Rebecca Kotschwar, Jenn and Alex Anderson, Richard and Melissa Fiese, Hayden Kotschwar, Brett and Nichole Nelson, Randi and Chad Sinclair; great grandchildren, Audrey, Makenzie, Alyvia, Zander, Keegan, Paislee, Zach, Sky, Trenton, Grady, Jack, Johnny, June; great- great-grandson, Grayson: brothers, Don and Genice Berns of Hastings, NE, Gary and Sharon Berns of Broken Bow, NE; sisters, Phyllis Osthoff of Athol, KS, Sharon Couch of Ada, OK, BJ and Gary Schnabel of San Tan Valley, AZ, Dianna and Bob Ferris of Waverly, NE.

Ginny was preceded in death by her husband Harold, daughter-in-law, Trudy Kotschwar, and sister, Carol Post, brothers-in-law, Carl Osthoff and Leon Couch, great grandson, Aiden Kotschwar.
