LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - Lubbock voters approved a $103,400,000 road bond package by a roughly 5,600-vote margin. Unofficial final results show 53.1 percent, or 48,863 citizens, voted for the measure. 43,236 voted against. Latest election results The street bond would pay for work on Broadway, replacing historic brick with concrete, and brick pavers in the intersections and crosswalks downtown. It would also rebuild University from 50th St. to the South Loop in Central Lubbock. Upland Ave. would see an expansion from two to five lanes between 98th St. and 114th St. in southwest Lubbock. 34th St. would expand from two to three lanes between Upland Ave. and Alcove Ave. in west Lubbock. Two stretches of road would be built on 146th St., from Slide to Quaker, and University to Ave. P in south Lubbock. Also there, Ave. P would be rebuilt from 130th St. to 146th St. Jordan Wheatley was on the Citizens Advisory Committee that decided which roads Lubbock should focus on next. He then became the chairman for the 2024 Lubbock Road Bond PAC . "I've lived in Lubbock my whole life, and the last three or four years, I really have noticed a rush hour. Traffic is real in Lubbock now. It's not just a 10 minute commute, it's more like a 20 minute commute, now," Wheatley told us in October . If passed, average homeowners would see a yearly increase of just under $30 a year. Deanne Clark says that price is too high to pay right now. She's part of the Conservative Action Network, a small group of Lubbock women who meet to discuss politics and take action. "Oh my gosh, will we never be through with the streets? And we're far behind, I know that the streets are dirt and that we need streets, but can we pay for them?" Clark said in our report last month. She says there's already enough construction going on. She's afraid large developers are making decisions for average homeowners in town.
