Voters approve wine sales at Nolensville grocery stores
NOLENSVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — There's plenty that divides voters, but in one Middle Tennessee community, there was one ballot measure that received close to unanimous support.
A lot of Nolensville voters seemed to enjoy wine with dinner. Voters passed a measure allowing the sale of wine in grocery stores by nearly 90 percent.
"Wine and food go together," President of Tennessee Grocers & Convenience Store Association, Rob Ikard, told News 2 in June.

"Shoppers don't want to have to go to two different places to buy these two natural complements to each other," Ikard added.
The stress of stopping at two different stores, one for wine and one for food, will end in Nolensville.
"They wanted the convenience of being able to buy wine where they buy their food and they passed a referendum that allows for wine to be sold in retail grocery stores in Nolensville," Ikard said.
Ikard said that the process to get the referendum on Tuesday's ballot has taken months.
"Nolensville had to go through the process of a petition drive to get the issue onto the ballot and then they had to vote for it in yesterday's election," Ikard explained. "It passed overwhelmingly."

All Nolensville needs now: more grocery stores to sell wine.
"Nolensville is a growing community," Ikard said. "People are moving in there and building there at a very rapid rate."
Ikard said that a Kroger and Publix are under construction in town, but it may be two years before they open.
