VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Wabashiki Fish and Wildlife Area has been named the 2024 Midwestern Traveler's Best Place to Paddle in Indiana.

While only holding water for a few months of the year, Wabashiki hosts kayaking in the spring and summer months with lots of wildlife spotting opportunities. Vigo County Parks and Recreation's natural resource programmer Heather Cosme Milian said that she loves that the parks in Vigo County are getting the recognition that they deserve.

"We know that we have great parks here in Vigo County and we think that we have some of the best parks in the state along with world renowned areas here," said Cosme Milian. "It is really exciting to see that other people outside of Vigo County, throughout the state, and even the Midwest see that."

Cosme Milian also noted that both Griffin Bike Park and Fowler Park were also nominated for awards this year.
