Baylor Libraries Author Series: Remembering Antônia Teixeira, is from 3 to 4 p.m. Tuesday at Moody Library.

"Remembering Antônia Teixeira: A Story of Missions, Violence, and Institutional Hypocrisy" was written by Dr. João Chaves, assistant professor of the history of religion in the Américas, and Dr. Mikeal Parsons, University Distinguished Professor and Kidd L. & Buna Hitchcock Macon Professor of Religion (Eerdmans, 2023).

"Remembering Antônia Teixeira" details the sexual assault of a Baylor student in 1894 through summaries and quotations as given by Antônia in trial testimony and interviews as well as medical experts. Her assault will be discussed during this Baylor Libraries Author Series session.

Harvest celebration

The fourth annual McLennan County Harvest Celebration is Thursday at the Tonkawa Falls Civic Center, 8542 E. Fourth St., in Crawford, adjacent to the Crawford Pirate Football Stadium.

It will be an opportunity to visit with agriculture supporters as well as ag vendors, eat a steak meal and learn about Extension result demonstration work completed in McLennan County. Participants will also have an opportunity to take home great door prizes.

Keynote speaker is Dr. Larry Redmon, professor and associate department head of Texas A&M University Soil & Crop Sciences & Extension Program Leader.

Registration begins at 4:30 p.m. and the program will be over at 8:30 p.m.

Garrison garden cleanup

Creating Green Neighborhoods, a Keep Waco Beautiful Program focused on problem-solving and beautification efforts in neighborhoods across Waco, will conduct a cleanup of Garrison Community Garden from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at 200 Garrison St. Park on the street or at the Doris Miller Community Center and walk over to 200 Garrison St.

Volunteers will do basic garden work, pulling weeds, fixing beds, planting plants, laying down soil and mulch. If you have gardening supplies such as gloves, rakes, or shovels, please bring them with you. We have limited supplies for this project.

Out of the Darkness walk

The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention's Out of the Darkness Waco Walk will start at 6 p.m. Saturday at Brazos Park East, 3516 N. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.

The event provides community, connection, healing and hope for survivors of suicide loss and those with lived experience.

Every dollar participants raise will support the foundation's investment in life-saving research, education, advocacy and support for people affected by suicide.

Dancing with Waco Stars

The Family Abuse Center will hold its ninth annual Dancing with the Waco Stars fundraiser Thursday at the Waco Hippodrome Theatre, 724 Austin Ave.

Founded in Waco in 1980, the Family Abuse Center serves victims of domestic violence across six counties in Central Texas.

This year's theme is Once Upon A Time.

Literacy coalition

The Central Texas Literacy Coalition will meet at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Community Bank and Trust Wealth Center, 1711 Lake Success Drive.

Texas State Technical College Provost Beth Wooten will speak. The public is invited.

Antique farm machinery

The Waco Antique Farm Machinery Club will hold its seventh annual fall show Friday and Saturday at Tonkawa Park in Crawford.

A tractor ride will start at 4:30 p.m. Friday, followed by a dinner at 524 E. Fourth St. Cost for dinner is $15.

A tractor and car show will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

Lake Waco cleanup

Come join Keep Waco Beautiful, along with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Group W Litter Patrol, is sponsoring a Lake Waco cleanup from 9 to noon Saturday. Meet-up is at Flat Rock Park, 6301 Flat Rock Road.

Ironman river cleanup
