SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – A warming trend began in the ArkLaTex on Thursday and will continue through this weekend into the middle of next week. Highs could eventually flirt with 90 degrees. Rain still looks unlikely from now through next weekend.

Wednesday got off to a cold start as most of the ArkLaTex dipped into the 30s. Unofficially, it appears that we saw a new record low in Texarkana where we dipped to 37 degrees. The old record was 38 which was set in 1952. The low in Shreveport was unofficially 43 degrees. Most of the ArkLaTex has seen warmer temperatures Thursday afternoon with temperatures climbing into the low to middle 70s. Look for this warming trend to continue. It will be quite chilly once again Friday morning with lows mainly in the low to middle 40s. We will see daytime highs warm closer to normal into the mid to upper 70s. Expect highs to return to the 80s this weekend. We will likely see this warming trend continue into the middle of next week when highs once again could reach 90 degrees in a few spots.

Futurecast shows the impact of some very dry air that we have in place. We will likely once again see a clear sky over the ArkLaTex on Thursday night. That will be followed by a mostly sunny sky on Friday and a clear sky for High School football on Friday evening. Temperatures Friday evening will quickly cool through the 60s and into the 50s. After a clear sky Friday night, expect plenty of sunshine once again this weekend.

It still appears that upper-level high pressure will continue to dominate our weather through next week. It will keep the main track of storm systems to the north of our area. This means that we will likely stay dry. One one long-range model shows a little bit of rain during the middle of the week, but all other models are dry. The Blend of Models continues to show the dry weather will continue for most of our area with just a little bit of rain over the northwest corner of the area.

Most counties and parishes in the ArkLaTex now have outdoor burn bans in place. You can see a state-by-state breakdown on our burn bans page here. Unfortunately, it appears that rain will be very limited for the rest of October. This will probably end up being one of the driest Octobers on record in the ArkLaTex. Stay tuned!!
