Warrant issued for Nashville teen believed responsible for Southwind High School threats

One Nashville teen is currently en-route to Shelby County after the Shelby County Sheriff's Office issued a warrant for their arrest due to their involvement in the threats made against Southwind High School Wednesday.

Sheriff Floyd Bonner said the 15-year-old boy resides in Nashville, and is believed to be responsible for the various phone call and social media threats that caused Southwind High School, as well as various other Memphis-Shelby County Schools campuses, to go on a "soft-lockdown."

"The teen, who resides in Nashville, reportedly made several threatening phone calls Wednesday morning to the school and posted alarming messages on Instagram stating his intent to shoot up the school," Bonner said. "In response to these serious threats over 50 deputies were reassigned from the regular duties in various schools throughout southeast Shelby County to ensure the safety of the students and the faculty."

The warrent served to the teen is for threats of mass violence at a school.

When the teen arrives in Shelby County, he will be turned over to the custody of Shelby County Juvenile Court.

Since the teen is currently being charged in juvenile court, his name has not been released.

On Sept. 18, MSCS instituted a mass lockdown at all schools within the district due to several threats made against schools. Superintendent Dr. Marie Feagins said to date, there have been six arrests.

Three arrests were MSCS students at Whitehaven High School , two arrests were other MSCS students, one arrest was made for a fire alarm and one includes the Nashville minor Feagins said.
