Haines continued to race away on dangerous and dark country roads. The chase lasted around four miles. Haines turned and pulled into a cemetery, cut through that facility, and onto farm fields forcing the deputy to follow him. Haines would eventually get bogged down in mud and lay the bike down. That allowed deputies to take him into custody. Deputies found suspected drugs on him, which they suspect could explain why he ran. "We field-tested him. He tested positive for methamphetamines," Chief Deputy Randy Linkous said. Haines was booked into the Darke County Jail. "We try to rely on our deputies to make good decisions, it was a short pursuit, it did reach high speeds. However there was no traffic out there," Linkous said.
