Police gave an update Saturday, identifying the victims in a mass shooting in Florence.

Seven people were shot, four of them have died. Three others are in critical but stable condition.

"We've never dealt with this before. This is a the first time we've had a mass shooting in Florence. It's very emotional. My emotions are for the victims, their families, the officers that responded and everyone that was touched," Florence Police Chief Jeff Mallery said during a press conference.

Mallery said the officers that responded aren't much older than the victims, saying the department is going to officer support and resources to those officers.

Florence police say officers responded to a home on Ridgecrest Drive in Florence, Kentucky, at 2:51 a.m. early Saturday morning after receiving several calls for reports of an active shooter inside the residence.

When they arrived on-scene at the home, officers said they still heard shots being fired and found seven people suffering from gunshot wounds, four of which were pronounced dead on the scene.

Police said that a birthday party was currently going on at the residence of Melissa Parrett, 44, who was throwing the party for her 21 year old son. Parrett was identified as one of the victims who was killed in the shooting.

The other victims have been identified as:

  • Shane Miller, 20, from Florencem Ky
  • Hayden Rybicki, 20, from Elsmere, Ky
  • Delaney Eary, 19. Burlington, Ky
  • The other three victims were transported to University of Cincinnati Medical Center. Their conditions are currently listed as critical but stable.

Police said that Garvey had fled the scene by motor vehicle by the time officers had arrived.

Officers said they quickly located the suspect fleeing near Farmview Drive and US 42 and attempted to pull him over, leading to a pursuit.

The pursuit ended on Dale Heimbrock Way near Hicks Pike after the suspect vehicle drove off the road and into a ditch.

Officers say they found Garvey had sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound and was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
