Watch: ‘Today’ show visits Nike Sports Research Lab in Oregon to discuss NFL uniform design

The "Today" show this week took viewers to the Nike Sports Research Lab at the company's headquarters near Beaverton for a segment about how Nike designs NFL uniforms, focused on the creation of new uniforms for the Houston Texans football team.

Craig Melvin, one of the hosts of "Today," talked about the four new uniforms the Houston team is introducing this season, and the focus group meetings and other research that went into getting a sense of what Houston fans wanted.

Then, Melvin turned his attention to Nike, and how the design team there came up with the Houston Texans new uniforms, and how they evolved into a "a mix of artistry and storytelling."

The new uniforms have proven very popular, Melvin said, adding that uniform merchandise has become big business for the NFL.

The "Today" show airs at 7 a.m. weekdays on NBC; the "Today" 3rd Hour airs at 9 a.m. The show also
