Wayne State College concert to feature special performances by two Columbus natives
An eclectic medley of harmony and rhythm defines the Wayne State College Jazz Ensemble concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15, in Ramsey Theatre, located in the Peterson Fine Arts Building. The concert is free and open to the public.
Repertoire highlights the musical skills of several Wayne State students, with special performances by Riley Gausman of Columbus on trumpet and Alex Casillas of Columbus on drums. The Jazz Ensemble is directed by Michael Genslinger, instructor of music at Wayne State.

Musical selections include the sizzling samba groove of "Coconut Champagne" by Denis Diblasio, made famous by legendary trumpeter Maynard Ferguson; the familiar jazz standard "My Funny Valentine" by Richard Rodgers; and the gospel inspired "Go Tell It on the Mountain," arranged by Mathew Montgomery. The funk classic "Superstition" by Stevie Wonder is also featured, as well as swing and jazz ballad compositions by Gene Thorne.
