HYATTSVILLE, MD — Tobias Dorzon, a well-known Hyattsville chef and former NFL player, was one of two people shot Tuesday night in Prince George's County, according to police and multiple reports.

In a social media post on Tuesday night, Hyattsville police confirmed officers were at the scene of a shooting in the 2500 block of Kirkwood Place. According to police, four suspects attempted to rob Dorzon and his female companion as they returned from dinner.

According to a WTOP report , the suspects opened fire on Dorzon and the woman, shooting off dozens of rounds.

Both Dorzon and the woman were shot, police said. Their injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

"Both were struck multiple times by gunfire. The suspects then approached the victim and took personal effects from him, and then fled in the same vehicle, which was a white, small SUV crossover with a sunroof, and fled the area," Hyattsville Police Chief Jarod Towers told WTOP.

While authorities did not name Dorzon, Prince George's County Councilmember Wanika Fisher confirmed he was involved in the shooting in a statement to WTOP.

"Such a horrible act couldn't have happened to a better person. I am sending my deepest sympathies to him and the second victim, as well as their families and friends, and I wish them both a speedy recovery. We have no place for this kind of senseless violence in our district or our county," Fisher said.
