West Hartford Schoolchildren To March Food Donations To Town The annual Morley Elementary School tradition of bringing food donations via a large wagon convoy is slated for Thursday, Nov. 7.Town of West Hartford
WEST HARTFORD, CT — Folks traversing West Hartford's center Thursday will see an army of schoolchildren marching to do good for their community.
That's because Morley Elementary Elementary School pupils in grades K-2 will make their annual 1.22-mile trip to West Hartford Town Hall on Thursday, Nov. 7 (rain date of Nov. 14).
They're expected to be pulling red wagons laden with non-perishable food for the West Hartford Food Pantry.
At 9:30 a.m., schoolchildren, teachers, parents, and Morley Principal Ryan Cleary will congregate at West Hartford Town Hall, where tables will be set up outside to place the food.
This is the 30th year of the Morley School Red Wagon Food Drive.
"Their donations significantly boost West Hartford's Food Pantry stock, and the town is grateful for the many years of generosity," wrote the town.
The West Hartford Food Pantry offers support to families in crisis.
Each year, the pantry distributes thousands of bags of food to West Hartford residents in need.
With rising fuel and food costs, this winter will be critical for lower-income households.
The pantry's greatest needs right now are cold cereal, rice, shelf-stable milk, pasta and sauce, tuna, canned ravioli, baked beans, canned fruit, canned vegetables, soup, and peanut butter. Other commonly donated items are snacks, jelly, canned chicken, macaroni and cheese, and cooking oil.
Food donations can be dropped off in the West Hartford Town Hall lobby at the customer service desk, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Financial contributions may be sent to the Town That Cares, 50 S. Main St., Room 130, West Hartford, CT 06107.
