West Hills police, coroner investigating remains of body found along Haws Pike
JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – Cambria County authorities are examining the remains of a body that was found early Wednesday along state Route 56 near the Westmoreland County line.
A fire call came in at 2:30 a.m.
"Lower Yoder firefighters were called to a brush fire along Haws Pike," West Hills Regional police Chief William "BJ" Newman said.
A police officer followed firefighters as a matter of routine, he said.
"When they arrived, they found a human body on fire just over the guide rail," Newman said. "They extinguished the fire."
The body is believed to be that of a male.
West Hills police and the Cambria County Coroner's Office are investigating.
An autopsy is scheduled for noon Wednesday at ForensicDX in Windber, Coroner Jeff Lees said.
