West Rockhill voters reject Holiday House pool debt referendum
WEST ROCKHILL — The voters of West Rockhill have narrowly rejected a referendum to borrow up to $3 million to renovate the Holiday House pool.
Unofficial results from the Bucks County Board of Elections showed residents voting against the referendum 52.5% to 47.5%, with 1,496 "yes" votes and 1,651 "no" votes.
The West Rockhill Board of Supervisors placed the referendum on the ballot following the completion of a marketing study, which concluded that the 55-year-old pool, a joint venture of West Rockhill Township and Sellersville Borough, is approaching the end of its life span. The study projected renovation costs at $1 to $3 million.
The project would have cost the average household $129 per year, a 56% property tax increase. If split by Sellersville, the cost would have amounted to $70 per household.
While the referendum was non-binding, the board has said that the outcome will inform its future funding decisions.
Results will remain unofficial until certified by the Bucks County Board of Elections.
