RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) - It's common for some high school students to not know what career-path they want to pursue after graduation, which is why Western Dakota Tech held its annual Scrubs Camp Tuesday to show students what is possible.

More than 100 Black Hills area high school juniors and seniors attended the Scrubs Camp to learn and explore various healthcare careers.

Students were given lessons from instructors in different fields including dental assisting, nursing, laboratory tech and phlebotomy.

They also go to participate in different activities in the school's simulation center and labs.

The Admissions Specialist for Western Dakota Tech, Gina Kimbell, says the Camp helps with enrollment numbers and could aid in combating the current nursing shortage in the country.

"Our Practical Nursing program, they do get a certification that they can take to other states. So, they don't even have to stay in Rapid City, but yes, the need for health sciences professions is a great need," Kimbell said.

She added, Western Dakota Tech will have an all-programs camp in the spring for all of their technical classes.
