Wexford students receive generous scholarships from local wind farms

Márie Byrne, Robert McCrea, and Mairéad Mahon were awarded the scholarships after writing a statement about their future aspirations and careers, which were then judged by Ballycadden Wind Farm and Castledockrell Wind Farm.

The Ballycadden farm is located a Kilrush, a few miles outside Bunclody, while the Castledockrell one is located in Minerva Park.

Directors Tommy Kehoe and Tom Kenny awarded the winning students for their grades and ambition at a special school mass where the Head Boy and Head Girl positions for the FCJ were also announced.

The scholarship was established a couple of years ago, because since the wind farms employ a number of local people, they also wanted to give back to the community while contributing to the bright future of talented students.

Teacher Justin Kelly said the school is extremely grateful for the scholarships given the current struggles that college students are having finding affordable accommodation on top of fees.

"It is so difficult for them. The students work so hard and put so much work in. Everyone deserves their chance to go to college and we are so grateful for the help," he said.
