Weymouth: Plans for outdoor beach sauna submitted

Plans for a winter sauna that can seat up to eight people on a seaside resort's beach have been submitted.

Weymouth Town Council wants to put the wood-fired sauna near the pier bandstand opposite the Prince Regent Hotel in Weymouth.

If it gets the go-ahead the sauna would be available for hire to individuals or groups from November to February.

The planning application to Dorset Council proposes what is described as a shepherd-hut style "wild sauna unit and ancillary shed".

It would be run by Revive Wild Sauna who say in the application heavily discounted sessions would be offered mid-week to support community groups such as the Blue Tits sea swimming group.

The sauna would look similar to one the company already runs at Bowleaze Cove, with a glazed window giving views to the sea.

Saunas have also been set up at other seaside resorts in Dorset including Swanage and Seatown.

During the summer a hut stands on the proposed site for use by disabled swimmers.

Views and comments on the application can be submitted until 22 November.
