In the City of Gaithersburg, governmental offices are closed Thanksgiving Day on Thursday, Nov. 23, and Friday, Nov. 24, with the exception of these:
Recycling and yard waste materials pickup for residents whose regular collection day is Thursday, Nov. 23, will take place the following Saturday, Nov. 25. Recycling and yard waste collection for Friday, Nov. 24, will be picked up as scheduled.
Recycling includes newspaper, mixed paper, corrugated cardboard, and commingled materials (which should be separated from brush, branches, grass clippings, leaves and other yard trimmings) picked up by the City’s contractor.
Loose leaf collection will not take place on Nov. 23 and 24.
On-demand bulk pick up for residents whose regular recycling days are Nov. 23 and 24 will be unavailable. Appointments can be made for the following week using the online form , by emailing , or by calling 301-258-6370.
Regular trash and garbage collection for city residents is handled by private contractors. Contact your HOA or your private contractor regarding the holiday collection schedule for these materials.
Below are the openings and closures to know for the Thanksgiving holiday in and around Gaithersburg and Montgomery County:
Montgomery County office buildings: Closed Thursday, Nov. 23.
Montgomery County Public Schools: Closed Wednesday, Nov. 22 through Friday, Nov. 24.
State offices and courts: Closed on Thursday, Nov. 23 and Friday, Nov. 24.
State Motor Vehicle Administration offices and Vehicle Emissions Inspection Program stations: Closed Thursday, Nov. 23.

Alcohol Beverage Services: All ABS stores will be closed on Thanksgiving Day. Stores will operate from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 24.
Department of Permitting Services: All offices, including customer service lobby, will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 23. Offices will be open 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 24.
Montgomery County 311: Will not be in operation on Thursday, Nov. 23.
Ride On: Will operate on a Sunday service schedule on Thanksgiving Day.
Ride On extRa and Ride On Flex: Will not be in operation on Thanksgiving Day.
: On Thanksgiving Day, will operate a weekends and holidays service for the Orange Route. The Blue Route will not be in service.
MARC Train and Commuter Bus: No MARC Train service on Thanksgiving Day. On Friday, Nov. 24, will operate on Saturday schedule on the Penn Line only. There will be no Camden or Brunswick Line service on Nov. 24.
TRiPS Silver Spring commuter store: Will be closed on Thanksgiving Day. It will be open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Nov. 24.
: Mobile Commuter Store : Will be closed on Thanksgiving Day. Open on Nov. 24.
: On Thanksgiving Day, will operate on a Sunday Holiday schedule, with trains running from 7 a.m. to midnight. On Friday, Nov. 24, trains will run from 5 a.m. to 1 a.m. For more details, go to .

Parking at public garages, lots, curbside meters: Lots, Curbside Meters - free on Thanksgiving Day. Charges in effect on Friday, Nov. 24.
Rockville City recycling, trash and yard waste normally collected on Thursdays will be collected Friday, Nov. 24.
County-provided trash and recycling: No collections on Thanksgiving Day. Collections for the remainder of the week will slide one day, with the final collections on Saturday, Nov. 25.
Shady Grove Transfer Station and Recycling Center: Entire facility closed Thanksgiving Day.
Aquatic Centers: Will close at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 23. Closed on Thanksgiving Day.
Community Recreation Centers: Closed Thanksgiving Day and Friday, Nov. 24.
Senior Centers: Closed Thanksgiving Day and Friday, Nov. 24.
