When is the first day of fall? In central Pa., it’s ushering in rain

Today, Saturday, is the last day of summer, and fall begins tomorrow.

The National Weather Service in State College is calling for a small chance of showers this morning and early afternoon; that chance increases after 3 p.m. and could include thunderstorms. The Weather Channel says central Pennsylvania is most likely to see thunderstorms this evening, around 7 to 8.

Western Pennsylvania has a greater chance of storms this afternoon and evening, with gusty winds and hail.

The high temperature today in Harrisburg is supposed to reach 81.

There's a greater chance of showers and thunderstorms overnight into early Sunday morning, especially around 3 to 5 a.m., the weather service says. The first day of autumn will have a high temperature almost 10 degrees lower than Saturday, forecasters say.
