Where Jets stand in NFL Draft order after four-game slump

S.Brown3 months ago
The math says the Jets can still make the playoffs — if they can pull a reverse of 2022 and win their final six games instead of losing them.

Our eyes , after they have been outscored 109-27 in their past four games, and their history under coach Robert Saleh, who is 1-11 in games played on December 1 or later, tell us they’re doomed to a franchise-record 13th straight season of missing the postseason.

So that means it’s time to start looking at the NFL Draft and where the Jets stand.

The Jets are sending their second-round pick to the Packers as a part of their trade for Aaron Rodgers — because he didn’t reach the threshold of 65 percent of the Jets’ snaps played this season, which would have given Green Bay a first-round pick in the conditional deal. That makes every loss sting a little bit more for the Jets, who were supposed to be a win-now team in 2023, until Rodgers got hurt and they decided that they could do without a viable replacement.

But at least they have that first-round pick so they have a little extra ammo for 2024, when they plan to run it back with Rodgers. And there’s every reason to believe that GM Joe Douglas will be making that pick with the Jets clearly content to keep the group together and make another run with Rodgers hopefully healthy this time - we’ll see if things get ugly enough in the final six games to change that appetite.

Here’s where they stand in the NFL Draft order after all the NFL Week 12 games have been completed, according to old friend, Tankathon .

At 4-7 the Jets are currently set to pick eighth in the draft. But with seven teams at four wins, this could be a huge week for the Jets in climbing up the draft order: they would move ahead of the Giants in the NFL Draft order this weekend if they lose to the Falcons — which is hard to believe considering just a few weeks ago the Jets were celebrating as if they won a playoff game after finding a way to squeak past the Giants in a game that was handed to them (the Jets haven’t won since).

Perhaps Sunday will be the first step in a turnaround story. But the Jets opened as home underdogs to a Falcons team that had lost four of its last six, because the Jets have not been able to score touchdowns. And it’s hard to see that changing.
