Why Cher will STAY in the US despite vowing to flee if Donald Trump was elected over Kamala Harris

Cher has reneged on her bold claim that she would quit the US if Donald Trump was re-elected, as she is happily settled with her young boyfriend. The music icon, 78, has been dating 38-year-old Alexander 'AE' Edwards for two years, after first confirming their romance in November 2022. Speaking to the Guardian last October she said she would have to leave the States if Trump got elected - citing her health as a key reason. But now, the legendary singer has decided to stay put as she is 'so committed' to Edwards and does not want to take him away from his young son. 'She did intend to leave the United States if Donald Trump got elected, but things are different now than they were one year ago,' an insider exclusively revealed to DailyMail.com. 'She gave that interview before she was so committed.' Cher told the Guardian that she suffered health issues as result of Trump's previous Presidency, and was determined to avoid living under his leadership again. 'I almost got an ulcer the last time,' she told the publication. 'If he gets in, who knows? This time I will leave.' In 2015, the Believe singer joked she would move to Jupiter if Trump won the election. 'If he were to be elected, I'm moving to Jupiter,' she tweeted. The singer did not appear to relocate in the years that followed with Trump in presidency. Cher had fully intended to flee the States, but now realizes it would be hard to put her boyfriend in a difficult position as he continues to raise his five-year-old son, Slash, whom he shares with ex-girlfriend Amber Rose. 'They have their life together here and they're making an album,' the source added. 'They both have family and children. She's infuriated by the outcome, but she also knows that running will not solve anything.' Cher's sons Chaz Bono, 55, and Elijah Blue Allman, 48, also live in the US. The Believe singer was embroiled in a bitter legal fight earlier this year after she requested a temporary conservatorship for recovering drug addict Allman. Days later it was reported that Bono, whose father was the late singer Sonny Bono, had removed her from his nuptials to Shara Blue Mathes. In September, Cher filed a notice to withdraw her bid for a conservatorship. She appeared on good terms with Bono last month when she attended the premiere of his new film Little Bites. Cher confirmed her relationship on Twitter on November 6, 2022, with a photo of Edwards and a red heart emoji. They were rumored to have split in May 2023 but by September they were pictured enjoying dinner, before attending the Valentino fashion show at Paris Fashion Week together the following month. During an interview on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Cher opened up about her relationship with Edwards - insisting their 40-year-old gap isn't an issue. 'Well, on paper it's kind of ridiculous,' she admitted, 'but in real life we get along great. He's fabulous and I don't give men qualities that they don't deserve.' The pair looked more loved up than ever at the Cirque du Soleil 's 'KOOZA' premiere in Santa Monica last month. Cher was among a host of celebrities who threatened to flee the US if Trump made a historic return to the White House. Sharon Stone previously told the Daily Mail she would look into buying a house in Italy. Earlier this week it was revealed Trump's victory cemented actress America Ferrara's decision to relocate to the UK with her husband, Ryan Piers Williams, and their son Sebastian, six, and daughter Lucia, four. 'America is sick that Donald Trump is President again ,' an insider told DailyMail.com exclusively. 'She is devastated that Kamala lost. She thought the country she lived in was better than that.' They said the move does not mean that she is leaving Hollywood for good, as she wants to keep a 'presence' in the US for work and Latinas and women. 'She is going to continue to have a presence in the US for work purposes and to fight for Latinas and women, but she will be overseas for family and to benefit her kids' education,' they said. 'She wants them to have the best opportunities possible and to her, being overseas for that is what is important. 'She's not abandoning the US, she is prioritizing her life and focusing on the importance for her kids.' Actress Minnie Driver, 54, told The Times of London in July that she had returned to the UK after nearly three decades of living in Los Angeles. And at the time, she revealed that if Trump were to be re-elected, she would have a hard time returning to America. British star Sophie Turner, 28, told Harper's Bazaar last month that she realized she had to 'get the f**k out' of America due to gun violence and the overturning of Roe v Wade.
