CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – At least three more wildfires burned in western Massachusetts over the weekend, one of them getting dangerously close to apartments in Springfield.

Red Flag Warning continues in western Massachusetts

Springfield, Montgomery, and South Hadley all experienced fires over the last three days, bringing our total for the month over 260.

22News spoke with Lieutenant Brendan Shea with the Springfield Fire Department about the resources it takes to keep these fires under control," Typically, we don't have hydrants, there's not streets, so getting manpower, getting hoses, getting tools and resources there requires a lot more people to do that. So we've been doing our best to deal with it but like every other community around us, we're relying a lot on mutual aid."

Massachusetts saw over 12 times the average amount of wildfires in November so far according to DCR Forest Fire Control.

Recent rain hasn't been consistent enough to lower our chances but it may be on the way soon.
