Wilkes Takes Tournament With Win Over Newmann

KINGSTON – Wilkes University rallied from a one-goal halftime deficit to knock
off Neumann College in the championship game of the Wilkes Field Hockey
Invitational at Artillery Park on Sunday.

The Lady Colonels improve their overall record to 3-0.
Wilkes took a 1-0 lead at the 23:58 mark of the opening half when Amanda
Woodle scored off an assist from Kortney Loss. The Lady Colonels dominated
play in the second half and outshot Neumann, 13-0. Melissa Quinn tied the
contest at 2-2 at 38:05 of the period with a goal off an assist from Lara
Judson. Wilkes took a 3-2 lead when Carrie Stolarick knocked home a shot off a
Kathy Kemper assist at the 42:29 mark. Lauren Risser then gave the Lady
Colonels some breathing room when she scored off an Erin Henry assist with


Jennifer Cole picked up the victory in net by not allowing a goal in the
second half for the Lady Colonels. Hilary Weber played the first half in goal
for Wilkes and had four saves.

In the consolation game, Washington & Jefferson College posted a 3-0
victory over Marywood University. Heather Hosie came up with 13 saves in goal
for Marywood.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

Cedar Crest 2, King’s 1

FREDERICK, Md. – The King’s College women’s soccer team fell to Cedar Crest
College to finish second in the Hood College Invitational Tournament.

King’s got on the board when Christina Fisher scored off an assist from
Katie McFarland with 1:30 left in the opening period. King’s outshot Cedar
Crest 14-13 with the Classics holding a 9-6 advantage in corner kicks. Lady
Monarch goalie Christine Uhl made five stops.

Wilkes 7, Goucher 1

LANCASTER – Kami Roth scored three goals and Kristi Barsby added two goals
and three assists to lead Wilkes University over Goucher College at the
Franklin & Marshall Tournament.

The Lady Colonels improved to 2-1 overall, while Goucher slips to 0-2.

Roth capped her hat trick in the 55th minute of the second half with an
unassisted goal to give Wilkes a 5-0 advantage.

Katie Green and Liz Pauly split four saves in goal for the Lady Colonels.

MEN’S SOCCER

Brockport State 2, King’s 0

WILKES-BARRE – The King’s College men’s soccer team finished second in the
Brockport State University Invitational.

Monarch goalie Dan Upton made five saves, including a stop on a first-half
penalty kick. King’s hosts New Jersey Athletic Conference power Montclair
State at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
