Wilkes-barre Junior Legion Team Stays Alive At Regional

Sean Flecknoe had an outstanding performance to lead Wilkes-Barre over
Jonestown 7-3 in a losers bracket game of the Junior American Legion Baseball
Regional playoffs at Mecherlay Field.

Despite a sore back, Flecknoe gutted it out and pitched a complete game to
pick up the win.
He also had a single to score Adam Wayman and Frank Triniszewski to
highlight a five-run sixth inning to seal the win.

With the score tied 3-3 in the bottom of the sixth, Triniszewski singled in
Gary Smith and Corey Koons to give Wilkes-Barre its first lead of the game.

John Parada tripled for Wilkes-Barre and Mike Scocozzo had a sacrifice fly.

Wilkes-Barre will continue its quest for a Regional championship at 4 p.m.
today.




Nanticoke 7, Lehigh 2

STROUDSBURG – Sarah Bertoni struck out seven and walked two to lead
Nanticoke into the state championship tournament.

Nanticoke’s next game will be tomorrow in Lewistown, with a time and
opponent to be announced.

Bertoni also tripled and had two RBI for Nanticoke, while Ashley Horoshak
added two hits and two runs batted in. Gabby Grabowski, Lindsey Roberts and
Liz Dougherty all had a hit and an RBI for Nanticoke.

NEWPORT TWP. 11-12 softball TOURNAMENT


Plains 5, Back Mountain 4

NEWPORT TWP. – Melanie Rhodes drove in two runs and Shelley Black scored
twice to lead Plains over Back Mountain in the Newport Township 11-12 year-old
Tournament.

Black and Rhodes had the only two hits for Plains, which scored twice in
the bottom of the fourth inning to take the lead for good. Lindsey Humanik and
Amanda Fax pitched for Plains.

Plains will play the winner of today’s Mountain Top-Back Mountain game in
the championship, scheduled for Saturday.

Alexa Decker had a double and triple for Back Mountain and teammate Mary
Kate Osick added two singles. Pitcher Kristan Baker struck out 10.

Newport 10, Northwest 5

WYOMING – Mike Walch had three doubles to lead Newport over Northwest. Josh
Lukaszewski had a pair of hits and winning pitcher John Clawson added a hit.

For Northwest, Justin Cornell went 3-for-4 with a double, Tyler Kittle
doubled and Brett Rutowski singled.


Pittston 15, Kingston 8

WYOMING – John Peterson, Bill Ardoline and Dominic Lussi had two hits
apiece in support of winning pitcher Kyle Callahan to lead Pittston.

Mike Veronick had two hits for Kingston.


Pittston City 5, Hanover Area 4

WYOMING – With good defensive help from Kyle Callahan and John Peterson,
Dominic Lussi pitched a complete game to pick up the win on Tuesday.

Lussi led the Pittston offense with two doubles.

Kurt Perricci pitched a complete-game for Hanover Area.

District 16 9-10 Little League



Avoca/Dupont 8, Bob Horlacher 6

DURYEA – Jimmy Grazosi and Christian Curtis both had a pair of hits and two
RBI to lead Avoca/Dupont to victory over Bob Horlacher on Tuesday.

A.J. Mancini had three strikeouts in six innings and scattered eight hits
to pick up the win. Tyler Weiss had a triple and a single to pace the losers.


Newport Twp. 10, Mountain Top 9

NEWPORT TWP. – Brandon Meck was the winning pitcher and went 2-for-3 with a
double and triple to lead Newport on Tuesday.

Scott Morganti had two doubles and a single for Newport.

For Mountain Top, Jordan Dotzel, Jacob Popwycz, Corey Burke and Dylan
Bassham each had two hits.
