WILKES-BARRE – The city is welcoming the return of warmer weather with a full weekend of spring events.

The city is reminding the community that all events offer free admission and are appropriate for children and adults of all ages.

Saturday presents a jam-packed day for events beginning with Pennsylvania’s Great American Clean-Up. The city is asking volunteer groups and residents to participate in this annual event by taking some time to beautify city streets, neighborhoods, and recreation areas citywide.

The city will host its annual Cherry Blossom Festival in Kirby Park featuring everyone’s favorite food and craft vendors, as well as amusement rides and games. The festival is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. As tradition stands, the 9th annual “Pirouettes in the Park” will return on Saturday with 15 local dance ensembles performing at the Martz Amphitheater in Kirby Park during the festival.

Also on Saturday, the Northeast Immunization Coalition will present a “Spring Community Health Fair” at Solomon Junior High School in Plains from 11 a.m. t0 2 p.m. This event will feature health information booths, tours of the Wilkes-Barre City Fire Department’s Fire Safety House, bicycle safety presentations, a visit from Geisinger Health System’s Life Flight Helicopter, and much more.
