Wilkinson, Hirschfeld, Koch garner conference honors

M.Nguyen3 months ago

YORK – The 2023 season may have been a bit of a rebuilding year for York volleyball with just one senior and several underclassmen on roster, but the Dukes still saw a trio of standout players earn recognition from the Central Conference for their play on the court this fall.

Cynley Wilkinson was the Dukes’ top offensive threat all season long, and the junior’s play garnered a second-team all-conference nod, while junior setter Reese Hirschfeld was a third-team pick and junior Chloe Koch earned Central Conference honorable mention.

Wilkinson paced the area in kills for the second consecutive season, hammering 401 winners while hitting .178 for the season. The junior racked up a career-high 30 kills in York’s five-set comeback win over Milford on Oct. 5 and also tallied 28 winners twice in an Aug. 31 win over Aurora and an Oct. 17 loss to Grand Island Northwest.

The junior reached double-digit kills in 19 matches while also crushing 31 aces to pace the Dukes at the service line. Defensively, Wilkinson was a key cog in the back row as she finished second on the team with 277 digs and collected 28 blocks at the net.

Hirschfeld missed much of her sophomore season with an injury but returned to the court this fall and was the lead facilitator of the York offense as the junior ranked second in the area with 722 set assists. She also tallied 62 kills, 17 aces and 18 blocks while recording 212 digs.

Koch finished her junior season with 227 kills on a .087 hitting percentage with a career-best 24 kills in the comeback win over Milford. She racked up 22 aces from the service line and tallied 19 blocks but really made her presence felt in the back end of the defense. Koch paced the Dukes with 340 digs, the fourth-best mark on the final area charts.
