Wind Advisory For Banning, Beaumont, Inland Empire Thanksgiving Week
BANNING, CA — Wind has blown in to start Thanksgiving Week across Riverside County and will stick around through at least Tuesday. Blowing dust and cooler temperatures were predicted by the National Weather Service and the Air Quality Management District through midweek, according to reports.
In the Pass Area and the Inland Empire, the National Weather Service shared a high wind warning that would remain effective until 10 a.m. Tuesday in downtown Riverside, Moreno Valley, Corona, Hemet, and across the Temecula Valley.
In Banning, residents can expect sustained winds of 20 to 25 mph into Tuesday, according to the NWS. Gusts were expected overnight as high as 50 mpy. Remember to batten down your throw pillows and outdoor umbrellas during the wind event.
"People should avoid being outside in forested areas and around trees and branches. If possible, remain in the lower levels of your home during the windstorm and avoid windows. Use caution if you must drive," the NWS warning said.
The areas most affected by the high wind warning would be San Bernardino and Riverside County Valleys-The Inland Empire, San Bernardino County Mountains, Santa Ana Mountains
and Foothills, San Gorgonio Pass Near Banning.
Gusts were expected to reach up to 55 miles per hour, and north winds of 20 to 30 mph would bluster through those areas. Some dust would be in the air, with the Air Quality Management District predicting moderate levels of dust and particles.
"The air quality is acceptable; however, susceptible people should consider limiting prolonged outdoor exertion," they reported.
As for drivers, high-profile vehicles should prepare for those high-wind conditions.
"Travel will be hazardous, especially for high profile vehicles on east-west highways and interchanges," the NWS said.
According to meteorologists, local gusts up to 65 mph could be possible in the Cajon Pass.
The NWS advised the public to use caution when driving in the areas under warning.
A wind advisory was also issued in the mountains from 8 a.m. Monday to 2 p.m. Tuesday, with gusts up to 60 mph expected.
