  • Scoring summaryPregame: Portland a clear underdog, having traveled the night before while the Giants didn't need to travel. Vancouver on a 3-game losing streak.

The Winterhawks strike first on a power play generated by their fourth line. But the Giants strike back with two goals and the Winterhawks and took the lead, even though they trailed in shots 9-5.

Wild. The Giants went up 5-2 with three goals and looked like they had the game. But Portland struck back with 3 goals in 2:32 to tie the game after 3.

The Winterhawks had the better of the play, helped by some Vancouver penalties. But in the end no one scored.

Overtime: Your typical overtime, with both teams playing conservatively, then after the first chance comes it becomes a free-for-all. Then Yaremko and Thompson took advantage of Colton Roberts falling down to set up a 2 on 1 and the winner.

    How it was won:

Key stretch/moment: Portland's three goals between 16:32 and 18:56 of the 2nd period to go from 2-5 to 5-5.

Surprising: The Winterhawks have now outshot the opponent for the third game in a row.

Not surprising: The Giants give up and score a lot of goals, and so we had a 6-5 game.

    Controversies: none.

Best team won?: Hard to say.

Injuries/suspensions: None coming out of this game.
