A Kentucky mother was arrested and later booked in Vanderburgh County Jail after she was accused of attacking a 12-year-old girl at a fall festival.

While waiting on line for an amusement ride at the West Side Nut Club Fall Festival, Kristin Burnett, 33, of Louisville, allegedly grabbed the young girl by her throat, slammed her against a metal fence and held her there until detectives were able to pull her off the child.

The two detectives were said to be working the Friday evening event in Evansville when they witnessed the altercation.

Not long after the scene broke out, 33-year-old Michael Flemming Jr. - who shares two children with Burnett - intervened, trying to rip her away from the detectives, police say.

Flemming, police say, then held onto his partner of more than a decade and refused the detectives' commands.

Upon being detained Flemming tried to 'mule kick' the officers, causing one of them to bleed, officers revealed.

Both Burnett and Flemming were arrested following the incident.

Burnett was booked on charges of battery on a person under 14 years old, strangulation and disorderly conduct. While Flemming faces charges of battery against a public safety official, resisting law enforcement causing bodily injury, disorderly conduct and obstruction of justice.

The unsettling situation allegedly began after the young girl overheard Burnett and another woman behind her bickering over line-cutting.

The situation then escalated after the unidentified 12-year-old attempted to keep the peace, offering her spot to Burnett, policy say.

However the juvenile did not think Burnett heard her and says when she approached her, Burnett assaulted her.

After the arrests, officers noted redness on the 12-year-old's neck and small lacerations on her face.

Police say she also complained of pain and said she couldn't feel her nose.
