DEARBORN, MI — A woman who caused a fatal July crash in Dearborn has been charged, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office.

The crash happened on Michigan Avenue near the intersection of Nowlin Street at 7:59 a.m. on July 19, according to police.

Ghada Mustapha was driving a pickup truck near the intersection where a speeding SUV blew through a red light and slammed into the truck, killing the woman, according to police.

Mustapha, 33, was a doctor, wife and mother of three, according to news reports .

Felecia Sunshine Lazo, 25, was charged with second-degree murder in connection with the crash. If convicted, she faces up to life sentence or any term of years in prison.

Lazo was injured in the crash and taken to a nearby hospital where she was initially listed in critical condition, according to police.

Prosecutors said the woman's truck was facing north in the eastbound lane on Michigan Avenue when the SUV slammed into the truck.

"It is always beyond tragic when the life of a promising young person is cut short over the horrific actions of another," Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said. "By every account, Ghada Mustapha was a young, brilliant, and passionate doctor who was just beginning her medical career. She had hopes, dreams, and goals for herself and her family. The alleged actions of this defendant took away her life - along with those hopes, dreams, and goals."
