GLENDALE, AZ (AZFamily) — A sister shared new details on Thursday about the woman killed in a murder-suicide at a Glendale apartment , who was set to graduate with a master's degree this week .

According to police, 22-year-old Chase Cooper shot and killed 24-year-old Monet Newton before turning the gun on himself.

Monet Newton grew up with her family in Santa Clarita, California. She was very close to her sister Myah, who is devastated by the death of Monet.

Myah describes Monet as a strong, intelligent, compassionate woman who had her whole life ahead of her.

"Everything about her life is just, it was earned. My sister was such a hard worker from time we were little girls. She's always been hardest worker of the bunch," said Myah Newton. "She worked hard for what she had and I think it's so terrible this person took it from her when we were supposed to be celebrating her. Now I have to watch my parents go through this. It's just so sad."

The family flew into town to celebrate Monet's graduation on Wednesday but is now planning a funeral.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help with expenses.

Monet Newton had just earned her master's degree in psychology from Grand Canyon University and wanted to be a therapist.

She had been working with the Phoenix Suns while going to school.

Monet's mother found her and Cooper dead in her Glendale apartment near 79th Avenue and Union Hills on Tuesday afternoon.

She went there when Monet didn't show up to pick her up at the airport.

Family members tell Arizona's Family Cooper and Money had been dating for a few months and had just recently broken up.

Myah said there weren't any red flags with Cooper or any incidents or signs of violence, which makes what happened even more devastating and unexpected.
