With all the big box furniture stores in the area, it can be hard to find a place that specializes in the little details and provides quality custom pieces.

Medina-residents Jenny and Chris Moyse saw that need and are moving their furniture store, Woodforest Furniture, from Olmsted Township to Avon, 37211 Colorado Avenue (next to Dairy Treat). The store opened Sept. 30 with a grand opening celebration scheduled for Nov. 2.

The Olmsted Township location, 27005 Cook Road, will close at the end of the year.

"We specialize in Amish handcrafted furniture," said Chris. "We just love this area. We have a lot of customers that come to our current location from Avon, Avon Lake, Westlake, Bay Village and other neighboring communities. You can buy right off the showroom floor, or you can design a custom piece. We also have mattresses and Amish-made outdoor poly furniture."

The Moyse family has been in the furniture business for several decades. If the Woodforest name sounds familiar, this is the second time for Woodforest in Avon . Gary Moyse, Chris' father, opened Woodforest in 2015 at 35715 Detroit Road, in the historic home which now houses 808 Shave Ice next to Pickering Hill Farms.

"He (Gary) then moved (in 2019) to our current location which is in Olmsted Township," said Jenny. "He was ready to retire and my husband was a police officer for the City of Brecksville and was ready to get out of it. His dad handed him this opportunity to run the business which allowed him to retire from law enforcement and become the new owner of Woodforest Furniture.

Chris and I have been in the business now for almost five years, and wanted to expand. Coming back out to Avon has been on our minds since we started. We stumbled across this building and it became the perfect opportunity. So we are officially moving Woodforest Furniture back to Avon."

The new location is not only a furniture showroom, but also features a design center. Furniture pieces available include b edroom , d ining , k itchen , li ving , o ffice , o utdoor , r ustic , s pecialty , and y outh .

"Customers can come in and look at catalogs, stain samples, wood samples, as well as design a custom piece," said Jenny. "We do a lot with designing pieces that are very particular to someone's wants or needs. We have replicated a lot of pieces from Arhaus or Pottery Barn with a higher quality."

Store hours are from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday-Tuesday and Friday-Saturday; noon to 5 p.m. Sunday; and closed Wednesday-Thursday.
