WSL Roundup: Liverpool earn first win with stoppage-time penalty, title hopefuls Arsenal are held by Everton - and Man City dazzle against the Hammers

Matt Beard praised his side's 'immense character' as a stoppage-time penalty and two wonder goals earned Liverpool their first win of the season in a thrilling clash at Brisbane Road.

The Reds had gone in front in the 10th minute when Cornelia Kapocs capitalised on a poor clearance by Tottenham goalkeeper Rebecca Spencer, firing into the top right-hand corner from 25 yards out.

Spurs drew level after the break when Taylor Hinds bundled Jess Naz's cross into her own goal.

Liverpool responded through Marie Hobinger, who sent a sublime free-kick dipping over the Spurs wall and into Spencer's goal, before the hosts thought they had managed to salvage a point when Clare Hunt's deflected shot found the back of the net in the 83rd minute.

But Liverpool fought until the end, culminating in a 95th-minute penalty which Hobinger put away for her second.

Beard said: 'We showed immense character and I'm really proud of them. We were always in front but when they peg you back, to get back in front again was important.

'Two set-pieces, two great finishes from Marie, especially the free-kick. It was entertaining for the neutral. I'm just glad we walked away with three points.'

Elsewhere, WSL newcomers Crystal Palace picked up their first points of the season, beating Leicester 2-0 at the King Power Stadium.

The Eagles responded to letting in 11 goals in their opening two games, with two strikes from Annabel Blanchard lifting them to eighth, above 10th-placed Leicester.

Arsenal were held to a goalless draw by Everton at the Emirates, while Manchester City beat West Ham 2-0 with goals from Lauren Hemp and Mary Fowler to climb to the top of the table.
