CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) — Senator-Elect and West Virginia Governor Jim Justice says he's making progress in his transition from the state capital to the nation's capital. Justice is scheduled to be sworn-in to the U.S. Senate on Jan. 3, 2025, so there's a lot to do between now and then.

Just three days after being elected to the U.S. Senate , Governor Justice is wrapping up his duties in Charleston. He says he has spoken with several of his new colleagues in the U.S. Senate, as well as his friend, President-elect Donald Trump.

For now, Justice wants to divide his schedule between West Virginia and Washington, DC, and that he and his English bulldog, Babydog, do not plan to be full-time in the nation's capital.

"I'll go back and forth a lot. You know from the standpoint of, you know my love for West Virginia, I hope I'll be here an awful lot," said Justice.

The senator-elect says he's interested in being assigned to the Senate Finance Committee or the Senate Energy Committee because they are his areas of expertise.

A lot will be happening this coming week. Newly elected senators will be in Washington, DC for their orientation, and also to vote on their new senate majority leadership team.
