WVC roundup: Lehman wrestling wins; Rowley hits milestone for Hanover Area

Hanover Area’s Joe Rowley was honored for becoming the sixth wrestler in school history to record 100 career wins, but Lake-Lehman won Wednesday’s WVC dual 45-33.

as Brandon Ritinski, Jake Gizenski, Zach Stuart, Josh Bonomo, Jeremy Scouton, Logan Slivinski won by fall.

Steven Rowley and Aidan Frields had pins for the Hawkeyes.

Hazleton Area 45, Wyoming Valley West 22

The Cougars ran off a streak of six straight pins by Charles Everdale, Bryce Molinaro, Jake Marnell, Dante Matarella, Seth Hunsinger and Edonel Rodriguez. The run ended when Johnny Cora lost after being assessed a flagrant misconduct.

Matt Giza and Cadden Kucek each won by technical fall for the Spartans. J.J. White won his WVC tournament finals rematch against Jorven Rodriguez by a 5-2 decision.

Pittston Area 45, Nanticoke Area 27

The Patriots picked up pins in the first six contested bouts of the evening, as Keegan Bucci, Jose Ortiz, Jacob Granahan, Kevin Robey, Nico Solano and James Spindler all won by fall, as did John Symons in the final match of the dual.

Collin Kudrakjo-Kashatus and John Pashinski earned pins for the Trojans.

Crestwood 51, Berwick 19

Hunter Greenberg, Trey Zabroski, Nolan Stortz, Michael Gavin, Cole Kakalecik and Jeremy Buzak all scored pins for the Comets in the victory.

Joseph Swiderski won by fall for the Bulldogs.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Hazleton Area 84, Berwick 49

Eleven different Cougars scored at least two points as Hazleton Area took control early. Andrew Vayda scored 15 to lead four players in double figures for the Cougars, who hit 11 threes on the night.

Berwick’s Sean Murphy led all scorers with 17 points.

Tunkhannock 45, MMI Prep 40

Ryan Harder scored 15 of his game-high 17 points in the second half to help the Tigers edge past host MMI Prep. Jack Chilson added 12 points.

Drew Sechler and Marcus Kassick scored 15 apiece for the Preppers.

GIRLS SWIMMING

Tunkhannock 101, Berwick 69

Emma Holdredge figured in on four first-place finishes for the Tigers, winning two individual events and helping secure two relay wins.

The Bulldogs were led by Mia Doll and Sydney Lloyd, who won two events apiece.

BOYS SWIMMING

Tunkhannock 121, Berwick 43

The Tigers took first in every event, headlined by the performance of Julien Madus, who won the 50 free and 100 back while also swimming on the first-place 20 free and 400 free relay teams.
