23XI Racing Makes Shocking Donation In Aid Of Hurricane Helene Victims
Amidst this devastation of Hurricane Helene throughout the Gulf Coast, Michael Jordan and 23XI Racing have pledged $1 million in a heartfelt effort to support the victims of this catastrophic event.
The NASCAR team shared to social media on Monday:
"Following the destruction caused by Hurricane Helene, Michael Jordan and 23XI are donating $1 million to assist with relief efforts in North Carolina, our home. We are contributing $500,000 each to the NC Disaster Relief Fund and Second Harvest of Metrolina. Michael and 23XI are committed to helping North Carolina move forward and encourage others to join in rebuilding our communities."
Michael Jordan also sent a message to those suffering from the natural disaster, via the same post:
"Our hearts go out to everyone suffering from Hurricane Helene's devastation. 23XI Racing and I are honored to support the NC Disaster Relief Fund and Second Harvest of Metrolina as they help rebuild lives, restore hope and ensure that those affected receive the assistance they need. While the process of recovery will take a long time, as a proud North Carolinian, I know firsthand the strength and resilience of the people in this state we call home, and we will get through this together."
Of the $1 million donation, $500,000 will be allocated to the NC Disaster Relief Fund, a key organization that spearheads immediate assistance to North Carolinians hit hardest by the hurricane. The remaining $500,000 will support the Second Harvest of Metrolina, a vital resource for food distribution and aid in the region.
Hurricane Helene made its catastrophic landfall late Thursday near the mouth of the Aucilla River, just 20 miles northwest of last year's Hurricane Idalia's landing site. The storm first came in with winds of 140 mph (225 kph), leaving a staggering amount of destruction across Florida and into Georgia. As the hurricane weakened to a tropical depression, it continued its path over the Carolinas, causing severe disruption.
The aftermath of Hurricane Helene is grim. At least 40 fatalities have been reported according to the Associated Press . The storm has also led to widespread power outages affecting approximately 4.2 million people across five states. In North Carolina alone, over 1 million residents are without power, confronting major disruptions to daily life and emergency services. In Greenwood, South Carolina, the situation is particularly dire, with major roads blocked by fallen trees and debris, leaving entire counties in darkness.
