17-year-old charged on assault against New York State Trooper

CHEMUNG, N.Y. ( WETM ) – A 17-year-old teen has been charged in connection to an incident of assault against a New York State Trooper.

New York State Police report that on Wednesday, Oct. 16, troopers from the state police barracks in Horseheads were called to a domestic dispute at a home on Rotary Road in the Town of Chemung. Upon investigation, police say that the teen was damaging property inside the home.

Police say that when they were issuing an appearance ticket to the teen, he became aggressive and hit a trooper on the head, causing injury. As a result, the teen was taken into custody and processed at the state police barracks in Horseheads.

The teen was charged with assault in the second degree (class D felony), resisting arrest (class A misdemeanor) and criminal mischief in the fourth degree (class A misdemeanor.) He was then issued an appearance ticket to Chemung County Youth Part Court on Oct. 21, 2024, and was released to his father.
