99-year-old East Liverpool football superfan ready for Friday’s playoff game
EAST LIVERPOOL, Ohio (WKBN) – When the East Liverpool "Potters" take the field Friday night, one of the team's oldest cheerleaders will be up in the stands.
Bonnie Miller has Potters memorabilia scattered all around her apartment — old programs, blankets, even a cowbell.
"I hardly ever miss a home game," she said.
The 99-year-old will be there as the 7-and-4 Potters host West Holmes in the second round of the high school football playoffs.
"They're supposed to be pretty good," Miller said. "But we played real good last week so I'm hoping we're going to play good again this week."
Miller says she's been going to Potters games since 1945 . That's the year she and her husband got married.
At one point, they had season tickets for 70 years.
Miller and her seven siblings all went to East Liverpool, as well as her own three sons and her grandchildren. In all, four generations have played football there, too.
"My husband, my son, my grandson and my great-grandson," she said.
She's not alone in her excitement. A number of storefronts in town are decorated and workers at The Vault restaurant and pub are all dressed in Potter blue.
"Everybody's super excited. We have the support. We've had several different groups bring us in all the signs and things, the cheerleaders and band, to display," said Kiley May, co-owner of The Vault.
While The Vault will be hosting a watch party, Miller and her son will be rooting from the stands — even though it's going to be a little chilly at game time.
"Oh yeah, well, I wear my long johns," she said.
If they win Friday night, Miller says she'll keep going to the games as long as she can.
