21-year-old Groton man dies after motorcycle crash
GROTON, Conn. (WTNH) — Groton police say a 21-year-old died after a motorcycle crash early Friday morning.
It was about 12:45 a.m. when an officer came upon the crash scene in the area of Midway Pizza on Fort Hill Road, between Depot Road and South Road.

According to police, the motorcycle was down on the roadway and its driver was found nearby with serious injuries.
Elijah W. Hummel, 21, of Groton was transported to L&M Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police said an initial investigation shows Hummel was speeding westbound on Fort Hill Road/Route 1 on a 2024 Kawasaki ZX-400 when he lost control of the motorcycle and traveled across the eastbound lane to strike an unoccupied Jeep Cherokee parked in front of the pizza shop.

The Southeastern Connecticut Regional Traffic Unit, Groton police, Ledyard police, and Groton's Criminal Investigation Division assisted in the investigation.
