Police are investigating a felony hit-and-run after a woman riding an electric scooter hit a 70-year-old man and rode off in Koreatown on Sept. 12.

The victim, identified as Danny Kim, suffered a head injury but did not want to be taken to the hospital. However, he died two days later, according to officials.

Surveillance footage from a nearby Salvadoran restaurant caught the crash on camera around 4:50 p.m. in the 2800 block of James M. Wood Boulevard.

The video shows a man and woman illegally riding electric scooters on the sidewalk when the woman runs into Kim, knocking him to the ground.

The couple didn't stop, so the Los Angeles police classified the incident as a felony hit-and-run.

KTLA's Jennifer McGraw spoke with local residents who expressed growing concerns about the safety of electric scooters.

"I don't think it's really safe to ride on the sidewalks or on the street because anything could happen," said Maria Mejia, who runs Mama Lucy nearby. "The streets aren't even, people could fall or slip."

Police have not yet identified the couple involved in this incident.

Authorities encourage anyone with additional information about the crash to contact the LAPD as the investigation continues.
