78-year-old man shot during road rage incident in Akron

AKRON, Ohio (WOIO) - A 39-year-old man was arrested following a road rage shooting Thursday afternoon in Akron

Officers responded to the area of East Market and South Arlington Streets around 4:15 p.m. for a shooting.

When officers arrived, they found a 78-year-old man with a gunshot wound.

The victim was taken to nearby Summa Health Akron City Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

Based on initial information, there was a minor accident involving two vehicles on East Market Street. Both vehicles were traveling eastbound when the victim's vehicle sideswiped the other involved vehicle, causing minor damage. After the collision, the driver of the other car, a 39-year-old man, fired multiple shots, striking the victim once. After the shooting, the suspect left the scene.

Minutes later, officers were told that the shooter was at a residence in the 700 block of Ravenswood Avenue. Officers responded to that location and took the suspect into custody without incident. He was then taken to the police station for questioning.

The suspect was identified as Jon Jenkins, who was charged with felonious assault and transported to the Summit County Jail, where he was booked.

At least one handgun was recovered.
