These child shootings and others are prompting more calls for action.

"At the end of the day, it's going to take parents. It's going to take citizens out there to cooperate to make sure they are safe, but not even just themselves as gun owners, but to make sure their kids are safe, to make sure our community is safe," said Milwaukee e Mayor Cavalier Johnson.

MPD data through Nov. 10 showed 81 minors were victims of non-fatal shootings in 2024. That is aa drop of 32% from that same time in 2023. Sunday night's shooting will not be added to that number since MPD considers the shooting to be an accidental, self-inflicted shooting.

An Australian accused of smuggling amphetamines in a suitcase appeared in a Japanese court on Monday nearly two years after her arrest, saying she is innocent and that she was tricked into carrying them as part of an online romance scam. Donna Nelson from Perth, Australia, was arrested at Japan's Narita International Airport just outside Tokyo when customs officials found about 2 kilograms (4.4 pounds) of stimulants, or phenylaminopropane, hidden in a double-bottom suitcase she was carrying. Nelson, 58, said she received the suitcase from an acquaintance of a man she met on social media in 2020, and brought it from Laos to Tokyo as instructed.
