YORK, Pa. (WHTM) – York City has unveiled its new comprehensive plan for 2044.

The city says the plan is a blueprint designed to guide the city's growth and development over the next two decades.

"Well, it's important to have a plan every ten years. But it's also important that what we have in the plan, that we execute it," said York City planner Nancy Griffin.

There are nine goals in the plan including challenging York's reputation, improving property conditions, making homelessness brief, rare and non-recurring, increasing access to health services, eliminating food insecurity, building wealth within neighborhoods, building socially cohesive neighborhoods, creating a supportive transportation system, and reducing our carbon footprint and greenhouse gases.

The first goal, challenging York's reputation.

"And with any city or anything, you know, that the citizens of York, they want somewhere where it is clean and safe and that they can work and play and live and somewhere where they can live affordably," said Griffin.

Also in the plan, create more affordable housing.

"For seniors and then also, some market rate housing, too, for young or from our young folks because they like the modern, more innovative and then affordable housing just, you know, for everyone as a whole," said Griffin.

Griffin says the city wants to reduce the amount of vehicle transportation.

"To offer other modes of transportation. We have public transportation. We have bike lanes now along King Street and some other areas. And we've noticed a lot of e-bikes and walking trails and walking trail goes through here. So, they are bicycle trails that they can go on too."

Right now, this plan is just a draft and there will be public meeting to hear feedback from the community.
