YORK — York County is in a tornado watch until 10 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

The National Service's office in Hastings issued the forecast at 3:55 p.m. on Monday. The weather is expected to be mostly cloudy, with a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon and southeast winds 15 to 20 miles per hour with gusts at around 30 mph.

Showers and thunderstorms are expected tonight, with locally heavy rainfall possible in the evening and southeast winds 10 to 20 miles per hour with gusts to around 30 mph. The chance of precipitation is near 100%.

Widespread rainfall amounts of 1 inch or more are likely, with multiple rounds of thunderstorms from evening into the night, the weather service said. Some areas may receive 2 to 4 inches of rain.

The weather service said York, Polk, Hamilton, Howard, Merrick, Nancy, and Greeley counties are in a flood watch from 7 p.m. Monday until 7 a.m. Tuesday. Flash flooding is possible, while excessive runoff could flood rivers, creeks, streams and low-lying areas.
