It’s been several years since the Henderson Mennonite Heritage Park hosted its special “Country Christmas” event, but it’s back this year! The entire park will be decorated with dozens of trees decked out by community volunteers, businesses, and organizations. It will take place on Saturday, Nov. 25, from 4 — 7 p.m. Enjoy a stroll around the park, taking in the many festive sights and sounds. The decorated Christmas trees will be in all the buildings throughout the park for viewing. Santa Claus will be visiting the schoolhouse and handing out goodies to the kids. The Country Church will feature live Christmas music throughout the evening. Country school will be in session from 6 — 7 p.m. with Professor Larry Roberts. All children are invited to participate in some old-fashioned Christmas school lessons at the 73East schoolhouse. Hot chocolate, coffee, and cookies will be served in the Epp Barn loft during the event. Admission for the event is $10 for adults and free for kids 12 & under accompanied by an adult. The park is located 1 1⁄2 miles south of the Henderson I-80 Exit #342 on spur 93A. Shop in Downtown York on Small Business Saturday on Saturday, Nov. 25. Shop at York Chamber businesses and receive special reward bags with your purchases. The Chamber will be serving hot cider starting at 9:30 a.m. outside of their office and Wagner Decorating will have Santa ready to greet children from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. At 10 a.m. the Sun Theatre will be showing “Elf” for $1.
The Aurora Chamber will host “Come Home to Christmas” on Saturday, Nov. 25 in Aurora. This fun-filled day of activities will kick off the holiday season on Small Business Saturday. Shop Aurora from 9 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. The Plainsman Museum will host their Wonderland of Trees from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Santa will arrive by horse drawn wagon on the square at 11 a.m. Kids can visit “Shortstack” near the bandstand from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. and then visit Santa near the bandstand from 11 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Christmas Character Pop-Ups will occur around the Square from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. A free movie, “The Polar Express”, will be shown at the 12th Street Cinema from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Kids can once again visit Santa near the bandstand from 3:30 – 5:30 p.m. Tempo Performing Arts will give a Christmas performance on the East side of the courthouse at 4 p.m. A Soup Supper sponsored by the Aurora Firemen will be served at the Fire Hall from 4 to 7 p.m. and a Live Nativity will be held on the Northeast side of the Square from 4:30 – 5:30 p.m. The Grand Lighting of the Bandstand and Square will take place at 6 p.m. and a Lighted Tractor and 4-Wheeler Parade will start at 6:05 p.m. Lincoln Creek Landscaping will be selling Christmas trees on the square and Prairie Island Poppers will have their food truck on site.
Celebrate the holidays in Stromsburg on Saturday, Nov. 25 during the Lighting of the Square. A Soup Supper will be held from 4 – 7 p.m. at the Viking Center. Santa Wagon Rides will be given from 5 – 7 p.m. and the Lighting will take place at 5:30 p.m. Hot cocoa and cookies will be available and a Christmas Sing-A-Long will be held. The 2nd Annual Heart of the Holidays Festival will be held on Sunday, Dec. 10 at the York City Auditorium from 1 to 5 p.m. Starting at 1 p.m. come and enjoy some ice skating fun for the whole family. Make delicious s’mores at “S’moresville”, enjoy a Nativity Walk, see Santa’s reindeer and explore downtown York in a horse drawn carriage ride. Come and take pictures with Santa after his grand arrival on the York Fire Department’s Fire truck escorted by York’s Police Department at 2 p.m. At 2:45 p.m. the movie “The Grinch” will be shown in the Auditorium basement. There will be crafts, cookie decorating, food trucks, carolers, hot chocolate, cider, games, children’s books, the chance to create stuffed animals, balloon making, magic reindeer food, Christmas movie characters, dancing, music and puppet shows. At 4:15 p.m. a snowball fight will be held in the Auditorium basement and at 4:45 p.m. a balloon drop will take place. At 5:15 p.m. there will be a Christmas Light Parade and the skating rink will close at 8 p.m.

The York Elks Lodge will host their Christmas Charities Dinner on Wednesday, Dec. 13 beginning at 6 p.m. They will be taking donations for Christmas Baskets.

Santa Claus is coming to York! Come and visit Santa’s Hut at Kilgore Memorial Library in York on Thursday, Dec. 14 from 5 – 7 p.m. Spanish speaking helpers will be available. Kids can drop off their Letters to Santa in the mailbox on Santa’s Hut from now until Dec. 18.

Family Storytime with Mrs. B will be held at Kilgore Memorial Library on Friday, Dec. 15 at 10:30 a.m.
The York Senior Center will observe Wear Your Pearls Day on Friday, Dec. 15 so everyone is asked to look fabulous.
Saturday, Dec. 16
Lego Club will meet on Saturday, Dec. 16 at 10 a.m. at Kilgore Memorial Library in York. Elementary aged and older children are invited to come and free build with Legos. We have many sets they can build or loose Legos are available for them to come up with their own designs.

Come learn with York Parks and Rec during Mini Masterminds! We will learn and practice writing our names in many fun ways, work on shapes, colors, sensory, fine-motor skills and lots of other school preparation. Open to children ages 3 – 5 years old and held at the York Community Center on Monday, Dec. 18 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Little Picassos Family Craft Time will be held at Kilgore Memorial Library on Wednesday, Dec. 20 at 10:30 a.m.
The York Senior Center will hold their Holiday Party on Wednesday, Dec. 20. Humanities of Nebraska’s Joan Wells and Kris Simon will be singing Christmas songs of the “Old West”.
Emmanuel Lutheran Church invites the public to join in for Advent services at 3:30 and 7 p.m. A free will donation sloppy joe meal will be served between services on Wednesday, Dec. 20. LWML will welcome the Sharp Family Missionaries to both services.

Stay warm during the cold winter weather by joining York Parks & Recreation for Snowblazers! We will entertain your children all day Tuesday, Dec. 26 through Friday, Dec. 29 to make it easier on the working parents with games, gym time, swimming, snacks, crafts, and even a New Year’s Party on the last day! Snowblazers takes place from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the York City Auditorium for students in Kindergarten through 5th Grade. Lunches will be provided each day.
